Siding Completed, Electrical Started

The siding is now complete, including the caulking that finished up this morning. The paint is underway, though most likely will not finish before the temperatures drop below freezing during the day. The main focus on the paint right now is to prime all of the exposed wood so that it can sit through winter without consequence. Andrew would like to see the West side ("front") of the house painted before he leaves, so we may try to get that done.
The electrical work is underway. The basement wiring is complete and the main floor is in progress. The air exchanger was installed yesterday along with most of the piping for it. Since we have built a tight house, an air exchanger is necessary to get fresh air and control humidity. Fantech is the brand. Noah will have to blog more about the specifics of how it works, because Mindy is not exactly sure where the air comes and goes. One of the jobs of the exchanger is to recirculate the air to pull hot air down from the top floor and put it into the basement. But it can also pull fresh air and somehow warms up underground on its way into the house or something of the sort.
The electrical boxes that have to go on exterior walls are fun to see. The foam is cut with a hot knife, which essentially melts the foam, to create space for the wiring and boxes. We are avoiding exterior walls when possible, since it is easier to just nail the boxes to the studs of the interior walls. However, there are some rooms that have to have the outlets in the foam. Once the wiring and box are in place, spray foam is applied to keep them in place.

That is looking amazing. I saw your email about moving in a week. It must be going so fast (maybe it feels slow because of the wait). You will feel so rewarded when you walk into your new home. Your whole family has done a spectacular job!!!!!!!

Siding and Windows

After the roof was completed, it was time to install windows and siding. The windows are fiberglass Ultrex and look fabulous. The siding is HardiePlank fiber cement, which will be durable and also looks fabulous. Mindy started painting the south side of the house while Noah and Andrew installed siding on the west side ("front"). The paint is Sherwin Williams, colors Down Home and Sable (medium brown and dark brown). We are getting so close to being move-in-able!
